Well that was fast.

I’m already setting into the writer’s block. I haven’t the will anymore to write these, only one and a half posts into it.

I’ll eventually get back on writing it, probably, but don’t expect much.

Synergetically Inept: Part 1

September 15, 2009

Our story starts at one of several train stations in scenic City 17. I send a quick message giving the okay to my partner in crime, BlueMelon. The thought crosses my mind to select male_06, the asian one, for obvious reasons, but I convince myself to stick with my favorite, male_02. Naturally, our colorful fruity friend (whom, might I add, is such in more ways than one *wink wink*) goes with the (in this writer’s opinion) most overused model of all of them, male_07. Controls and such are setup and it’s good to go.

Once we’re (theoretically) suited up, we dive into city life to experience it to it’s fullest. We take a look at how the organization and minor changes work out, such as, a few select doors that were initially open for only a few seconds to let the player through stay open indefinitely to allow passage by the entire rebel party. This of course leads to a few minor bugs of similarly sized entertainment, in the form of a mass exodus of the NPCs populating the area just before meeting Barney.

Quickly leaving behind the idea of taking a briefcase from off the train all the way to the teleporter, we plow forward into the unknown. Breaking from the norm, I “accidentally” pick up a CP’s pistol after missing a jump just a little early, and, being the server host, diverge ahead a bit the next map load to pick up, to my surprise, a stun stick. Myself being inept at shooting worth my weight in used tissues with this amazing third person toggle for Synergy, I plonk over my pistol into his hand and gladly acceptthe position of up-close soldier with him playing long-range.

Venturing forth, plowing through obstacles I certainly would have otherwise been cautious and picky about (That is, a few select bridges and rickity walkways), we not only excelled at challenges that were obvious, but discovered the occasional alternative method that could be accomplished through team work in addition to a few extra tricks that were otherwise not obvious.

Wrapping up the day with a well timed Source Engine Crash (SEC), I can say with confidence the Synergy mod has been not only been fun, but also a learning experience that should truly be enjoyed by all with the immediate ability at some point or another.

Until next time.

Introduction

September 13, 2009

Greetings, reader.

My name is Alexander Leopold Adolphus Waterburton, better known as Dr. Kilereren. One day I was sitting around and got a message from a friend on steam about a little game called “Synergy”. After a quick Google search, I was intrigued, to say the least, to the point of trying the game out and eventually leading to the decision of piloting a story about my various exploits while traversing the game.

Let me begin by describing exactly what Synergy is. Synergy is a moderately popular Half Life 2 mod in which players work cooperatively through the Half Life 2 story mode, the episodic content, and several other mods which have support.

The goal of this little escapade of mine is to see exactly how the developers saw fit to place said campaign into a multiplayer co-operative environment, and to avoid not having a little fun doing so.
